# Design compressive strength of concrete: the coefficient `α`_{cc}

_{cc}

## Eurocode 2 part 1-1: Design of concrete structures 3.1.6 (1)P

The value of the design compressive strength is defined as

f = _{cd}α _{cc}f / _{ck}γ_{C} | (3.15) |

where:

`γ`_{C}- is the partial safety factor for concrete (see § 2.4.2.4 (1), § 2.4.2.4 (2) and § 2.4.2.4 (3))
`α`_{cc}- is the coefficient taking account of long term effects on the compressive strength and of unfavourable effects resulting from the way the load is applied.

## Recommendation

The value of `α _{cc}` for the calculation of the design compressive strength of concrete should lie between 0,8 and 1,0. The recommended value is 1,0.
