To prevent crushing of the compression struts in the flange, the longitudinal shear stress `v _{Ed}` should be satisfied:

## Recommendation

For the calculation of the maximum longitudinal shear stress, the recommended values of cot`θ _{f}` in the absence of more rigorous calculation are:

1,0 ≤ cotθ ≤ 2,0_{f} | for compression flanges (45° ≥ θ ≥ 26,5°)_{f} |

1,0 ≤ cotθ ≤ 1,25_{f} | for tension flanges (45° ≥ θ ≥ 38,6°)_{f} |
